The Timbre Player in the Continuum Fingerboard is a method of granular synthesis, in which audio is micro-looped in order to create continuous tones out of a minimum of audio source material. A sound is divided into two main sections, an attack phase and a sustain phase. How these two phases of the sound are expressed varies greatly depending on interactions with the Continuum playing surface.
While reminiscent of physical modeling techniques, this approach to synthesis yields a different set of tonal characteristics.
